“I re-used the name,” says Boomhower, “because everybody liked it.” Thalia Zedek, Eric's room-mate, co-produced their eponymous debut with the band. (Paul Kolderie engineered.) “We like that jagged, angular, aggressive-but-melodic sound,” says Boomhower. Mention them in company with the Fall, Gang of Four, Grinderman, the Cra mps or the Gun Club and Boomhower won’t complain. “But I don’t think we go for the roots as deep” as Gun Club. ”It’s more like old Birthday Party stuff at times - their lack of reverence that we mix with melodicism.” For this gig, Boomhower promises "outrageous hairstyles and pyrotechnics." (A version of this story ran this summer in the Phoenix.) Starts at 10. M.G. Lederman wraps up his Thursday night May and precedes the Big D.
