Mon. Feb. 18 We weren't the only ones - after Nirvana's demise - to groan, "Oh, great, now the drummer thinks he's a singer-guitarist and wants to make a record." On the o ther hand, what do you do when you've been in the most groundbreaking, important band of your generation and it all comes apart in a moment when your bandleader decides to take a permanent vacation? You go on. You do what you do. After a while, you regroup. Dave Grohl (in photo) did that in 1995 with his Foo Fighters, taking the band name from the mysterious, unidentified aircraft WWII pilots noted during the war. As to the band, Grohl - uniformly regarded as about the friendliest guy in rock - took a punk-pop path, shedding Kurt Cobain's grunge vision and also bringing, shall we say, a bit more uplift to the proceedings. They're at the DCU Center in Worcester Monday Feb. 18 with a 7 p.m. show. They're touring behind last year's "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace." As we write this, it's up for all sortsa Grammy Awards. As a live band, these days the four fours are augmented by as many as four other players, including a violinist, Jessy Green, and former Germs guitarist Pat Smear. (Adds punk rock cred; plus Smear's a great guy and toured with the re-formed for a bit Germs in 2006.) Tickets: $43.75-$23.75. 50 Foster St., Worcester 617-931-2000 www.ticketmaster.com
