Supersuckers: Not Sucking, Rocking Print E-mail
Monday, 04 February 2008

Mon. Feb. 4

Years ago - and we mean more than a quarter of a century - a TV talking head was asking Elvis Costello about his latest record and thought it somewhat "mature." Elvis sniffed a bit and said he wasn't so sure of that - "mature" sounded like something cheese did. So, now here's Eddie Spaghetti, singer-bassist of Supersuckers, in regards their upcoming disc" “It's a little different that our previous records. I almost hate to say this, but it's a little bit more mature ... I'm really proud of the way it's turned out.” Yep, the "m" word remains a trifle dicey in the rough 'n' tumble rock world. But you can see where Spaghetti (born Edward Carlyle Daly 3d - you can see why he changed his name for rock!) has long trafficked in gleeful, rockabilly-spiked punk-grunge trash. The devil, sex, drugs, all those staple surface in Supersuckers songs. They're kin to the Cramps. And, here's something that may shock you, they were formed all the way back in 1988, making them 20 years old and making us shake are heads and mutter things about time passing. But, one hopes (and believes) not passing them, you or us by. This spring they'll release their first full-length disc since 2003, and they'll play most of it - and other gems from their catalog - at Harpers Ferry Monday Feb. 4. Doors are at 8 with heavy metal band King Dust opening, followed by an acoustic set by Jordan Shapiro and Spaghetti. The Supersuckers close the night, of course. Tickets: $15.
