Saturday Sept. 16 The world of cover songs is a dicey one,no? So many bad ones, a few reconfigurations that makes sense like, oh, Sid Vicious's "My Way" perhaps. Nouvelle Vague has made a life of remaking classic new wave songs by giving them a South American spin. Hence, you'll hear Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart,'' "XTC's "Making Plans for Nigel," the Undertones "Teenage Kicks," Modern English's "I Melt With You," The Cure's "A Forest," the Clash's "Guns of Brixton," Depeche Mode's "Just Can't Get Enough" and even one by the Dead Kennedys we blush to mention, but it has to do with being too inebriated to do the nasty. And much more. They're at the Paradise Saturday Sept. 16 with the Submarines opening around 9 p.m at the Paradise. The Submarines will be familiar to Bostonians as the transplanted-to-L.A. couple Blake Hazard and Jack Dragonetti and they make sweet, semi-electronic music together. Thing is, they broke up as a couple, which means "Declare a New State!" CD is quite a breakup album, indeed. (Reference point: Richard and Linda Thompson's "Shoot Out the Lights.") As to covers, they do the Kinks' gorgeous "Waterloo Sunset." Tickets: $14. 967 Commonwealth Ave., 617-562-8801 thedise.com
