Exotica in the Middle of a Storm? Why Not? Print E-mail
Sunday, 16 December 2007

Sun. Dec. 16

Last show of the year for, Waitiki, a Boston-based band playing the kind of music you will not often hear in these parts - or any other. They call it “Exotic Tiki Entertainment from Polynesia and Beyond." Band leader Okonkuluku - possibly not his real name - writes on their website that, "We perform 'Exotica,' a style of music that we loosely define as a mixture of jazz, Latin, and contemporary Asian sounds under a tropical umbrella. Exotica is sometimes referred to as “tiki”, jungle tiki, lounge, or space-age-bachelor-pad music as well" In an email, he adds, "We have some special guest performers this weekend, including Ms. Helenini on the violinyita" - ? - "so we promise a good time ... and some rarely-performed hits" The music starts at 9 and food is served until 11. Free. They're at The Enormous Room, which is on top of Central Kitchen in Central Square.
