Put on Your MASCARA at the Abbey Lounge Print E-mail

Thurs. Nov. 15

We've written a bit about Boston glam-rocker Chris Mascara and the band he calls Mascara, so this time we asked him for his own take on what he's been up to. And he emailed us ... First he started with a shout he got this summer when they played the Cantab Lounge. "'Put your clothes back on.' We got scolded by the management at at The Cantab Lounge. With the band in full drag, a full moon out, the house was brimming with sexual revelers. A strip-tease, a guitar smashed to pieces, there was even a panty piñata. After all, it was a birthday party! Our set was tight, raunchy, Dionysian.  Only four days prior, I was down in NYC, on a last-minute call from Harmonix (creators of "Guitar Hero"), doing yet another full day of motion-capture for animation for their upcoming game "Rock Band." I've become their first-call rocker for multiple frontman characters. That may also have had something to do with how over-the-top wild and kinetic we were. Fans and new converts agree: the new MASCARA really clicks, more than any previous line-up. Our raw power is palpable, I'm told. Highlights for audiences have been the sweet precision turns in the latest material, cooler bass tones, call-and-response vocal arrangements, and my notched-up singing and guitar-work." MASCARA headlines at the Abbey Lounge Thurs. Nov. 15 with Magnolia opening at 8:45, followed by Gene Dante & The Future Starlets and Axe Munkee. MASCARA's on at 11:45. Tickets: $8.
