Sunday Nov. 4 Ok, maybe your thoughts are with the Patriots and Colts right about 4 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 4. We understand that. Ours our, too. We may even be anchored in front of that hi-def telly that sits in the living room. It's being billed as the battle of the century and teased as being maybe better than the Super Bowl, as both teams are undefeated and extremely dominant. But in the interest of counter programming - and boy is this counter-programming - performance artists Heide Hatry and Mari Novotny-Jones have a live/film event that is a tribute to artist Carolee Schneemann (see the item on Schneemann's exhibit, currently up at the Menard Gallery). Schneemann has not been shy about her subject matter or body, over the years, and neither is Hatry. Her performance Sunday is "Expectations." Here's what she emailed us about it: "A woman appears on stage, lays an egg and throws it against the wall (preferably against a big glass, which separates the audience from the stage, but that will probably not be possible at Studio Soto). Finally unconstrained by social roles and expectations, female artists are free to create without regard for convention, whether cultural or biological, including reproduction and nurture. A fact for which I feel deep gratitude to Carolee Schneemann, whose pioneering efforts to assert the relevance of women as independent creative agents were essential in the development of an art in which the experience of women could be fully explored. The work embodies the desire to break with entrenched gender roles and to leave a mark in the minds, or stomachs, of its viewers." Yes, we're pretty sure there's some nudity involved. There will also be films by Luther Price and Michelle Handelman, and a panel discussion with the artists following. It does indeed start at 4 p.m at is at Studio Soto. There's a $5 donation asked. 63 Melcher St., 1st Florr, 617-426-7686 www.studiosoto.com
