Day of the Dead: More Celebration with Melodic Vision and Sol y Canto Print E-mail

Day of the Dead happens Saturday Nov. 1, and, continuing a tradition, the day is celebrated by Melodic Vision (in photo) and Sol y Canto at Suffolk University, folloSusan Wilson and Rebecca Strauss, Melodic Visionwing last year's performances at Brandeis. Sol y Canto - flutist and saxophonist Bernado Monk, bassist Jore Roeder, percussionist Renato Thomsand pianist Nando Michelin - play a set of Latin, rhythmic-based music and are followed by Melodic Vision, photographer/historian Susan Wilson and violinist/violist Rebecca Strauss. They'll be weaving music and history into their presentation, illuminating the popular Mexican holiday. It's called "Noche de Muertos: Welcoming Our Ancestors Home," and it takes place at Suffolk University's C. Walsh Theater at 5 and 8 p.m. If you choose, bring flowers or remembrances of loved ones who've passed on to be placed on the community altar.
