Wed. Oct. 31 Now, this we like. An establishment that's hosting a Halloween event on ... Halloween! Ok, you'll find others, but most clubs and restaurants have moved up their oh-so-scary-it-hurts events to the previous weekend, figuring, well, you know , weekend is party time and hump day is no fun. So credit Mary-Catherine Deibel (right, in photo) and Deborah Hughes, co-owners of Upstairs at the Square in Harvard Square, for throwing its bash Wed. Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to closing. You get a $35 prix fixe meal featuring venison chili, roasted pumpkin salad, smoked chicken and much more. You'll be encouraged to wear a costume and if your's is the best you get a a special five course tasting menu in the Soiree Room and a visit from chef Steven Brand. Now, the waitstaff and (we think) owners will be all dressed up, too, so it could be quite a Star Wars bar scene at the swanky restaurant. We asked Deibel if she could tease us even more and she emailed us back: "As darkness cloaks Winthrop Park this Halloween, weave your way through the cobwebs and into our Monday Club for evening of macabre meals. Our chefs will be spicing things up with some original plates that are bound to make your head spin further than Linda Blair's ever did. So leave your young and old priests home and allow yourself to exorcize both the demons and your body while dancing to our creepy live DJ and drinking some hellaciously hot housemade ginger beer cocktails. And don't forget to try one of Pastry Chef Emily's Satanic Cupcakes ... they're so demonic even the devil himself would go, 'Hmmm, she's pretty good.'" Oh yeh, they're promising cocktails called a Bloody Sidecar, a Dark & Stormy and a Crime of Passion. 91 Winthrop St., Cambridge, 617-864-1933 www.upstairsonthesquare.com
