Jimmy Tingle's Last Stand Print E-mail
Friday, 26 October 2007

Fri. Oct. 26 -Sun. Oct. 28

Might as well not mince words: Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway, one of the best little venues in town (and one with political discourse often in the showbiz mix), is going down. Comic and political commentator Jimmy Tingle's statement: "After five years of incredible excitement, challenges, hard work and humor producing and/or co-producing over 230 shows, Jimmy Tingle’s OFF BROADWAY Theater in Davis Square, Somerville has elected not to renew its lease which expires on Oct.31st 2007. Voted 'Best of Boston 2007' [Theater, Alternative] by Boston Magazine and 'Business Neighbor of the Year' in 2006 by the Somerville Chamber of Commerce, the multi use space presented a wide variety of entertainment and community related events including Theater, Comedy, Music, Fundraisers, Films, Authors, Kids Shows, Cable Access and Political Debates.
It was the ride of a lifetime and I am incredibly grateful for everyone’s help and support, but for personal, family and professional reasons it became clear after much soul searching that it was time to cease operations at least for the time being.
We want to thank our great and generous landlords the Gorin family for the opportunity to realize our dreams, our fantastic and innovative Davis Square neighbors, the thriving and always expanding City of Somerville and Chamber of Commerce, and especially our tremendous audiences, talent, staff, and supporters in the media who have been incredibly gracious in their support, enthusiasm and encouragement and without whose efforts there would be no shows.
I will continue to write, act, produce and perform locally, nationally and internationally and very much look forward to seeing you all again."

The final week of shows will present “Jim Morris and the Presidential Follies of 2008” Friday-Sunday. Check the website below for specifics, but as best we can tell the lay of land is Morris is on Friday at 7:30, and has a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee October 28. There's a memorial fundraiser October 27th for Tingle pal Jay Clark’s family, with comedian Tony V and special surprise guest, and Tingle's latest one-man show “Jimmy Tingle for President” will be running Saturday Oct. 28 at 9 at JTOB. and probably through Election Day 2008 at venue(s) to be determined.  Tingle: "In the unlikely event that I am actually elected president I will have no choice but to continue the show at least through Inauguration Day 2012."
