Harry Shearer: Yet Another Side ... Print E-mail
Sunday, 28 October 2007

 Sun Oct. 28

You may know Harry Shearer as one of the voices on "The Simpsons" - well, he's actually 21 of the voices, our favorite being Mr. Burns - but he's so much more than a cartoon voice: He wrote for "Saturday Night Live" during one of its heydays. He's a satirical author ("Not Enough Indians," about America's gambling obsession and the need to create more and more casinos - ring a bell Boston?) and, of course, a member of Spinal Tap and the Folksmen. The former is the best hard rock parody band bar none and the latter is the same in the '60s folk band sense. He's got a new album, "Songs Pointed and Pointless," including a faux paean to NYC and some anti-Bush barbs. He does a radio show in L.A. He's a regular on the Huffington Post blog. But on Sunday Oct. 28 he's in our neck of the woods, performing with his wife of 14 years, singer Judith Owen. They're putting on "This Is So Not About the Simpsons (American Voyeurs)," a multi-media show at McDowell Auditorium at the Jewish Community Center in Newton. It's, well, kind of cabaret. It will mix music, news clips, comedy and commentary to skewer - and we're taking a wild guess here - the deficiencies of our current political situation.  There are two shows Sunday, at 4 and 7 p.m. Tickets: $32.
