The Patriots Have Kicked Off; Now It's the BSO's Turn Print E-mail
Friday, 05 October 2007

Fri. Oct. 5

We caught opening night at Symphony Hall for Boston Symphony Orchestra last night and had a sophisticated ball. We didn't even have to miss a Sox game to do so. You, alas, have a conflict tonight, Friday Oct. 5. with the home town team playing the Angels at 8:37 and the BSO starting at 8. Music Director James Levine is opening the 2007-8 season with an all-Ravel program that features French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet (in photo). The orchestra plays Alborada del Cracioso and Pavane for a Dead Princess. Thibaudet performs Ravel's Piano Concerto in G , and it closes with complete Daphnis et Chloe. What might you note about the dashing Thibaudet? His garb. He's outfitted by Versace and Vivienne Westwood, the latter, of course, the punk-rock fashion designer who worked with Sex Pistols Malcolm McLaren back in the mid 1970s. There, we have linked the BSO to the Sex Pistols. We can rest easy. Tickets: $114-$34. Starts at 8 p.m.
