Scott Ritter Wants to Wage Peace; Jimmy Tingle Wants to Help Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 September 2007

Wed. Sept. 19

Comedy with Scott Ritter! No, not that's not quite the ticket at Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway Wednesday Sept. 19, though Tingle will be hosting the gig and Tingle - just back from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival - is a comic. But Tingle, as most people know, is not just a comic; he's politically active and his comedy deeply involves politics. Ritter is a former UN weapons inspector (1991-98) and author of "Waging Peace: The Art of War for the Antiwar Movement." Ritter's proposal: That the anti-war movement learn from philosophies they might normally reject, guys like Caesar and Napolean. That is, he argues for the need to learn the art of understanding the opposition better - the pro-war folks  - of waging battles only when necessary. What Tigle will do is start with a monologue, go to a presentation by Ritter, interview Ritter and then open it up for a Q and A. These things - and we've been to some - are both entertaining and edifying. Tickets; $25-$20. Starts at 7:30. A portion of the proceeds go to the Massachusetts Peace Action and US Tour of Duty.
