september 12 The Jimmy Fund is the official Red Sox charity, but Dawn Timlin (wife of Mike) and Shonda Schilling (wife of Curt) have joined their hurling hubbies in raising funds to fight one the rarest and cruelest of diseases, ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Syndrome. (At a benefit held at Fenway once, I heard an ALS patient take the mike and, as speaking as Lou Gehrig, make the joke about the irony of him getting “Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Yes, everyone laughed.) The Sox ladies are presenting Say It With Flowers, a hands-on flower arranging class led by Dale Rohman, aka America’s Flower Man. Fox-TV’s Kim Carrigan is the master of ceremonies. After class, there’s a wine reception/luncheon and silent auction benefiting the ALS Association of Massachusetts. It’s 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 12. Buy a ticket at $200 or table at $2000. State Room, 60 State St., 33rd floor, 888-CURE-ALS sayitwithflowersma.org
