Greece In Boston: Not Like In Greece Now Print E-mail
Wednesday, 29 August 2007

Wed. Aug. 29

As we write this, half of Greece is in flames, the work, we're told of arsonists. As if the world didn't have enough trouble with the fires nature sets, some jerks in Greece decide to torch the country. I'm sure they had their reasons. So far, 39 people are dead. Thousands of acres and homes are destroyed ... so it's a good time not to be in Greece, but, maybe, think of Greece. Avila would like you to do that Wednesday August 29, as they host a promotion called "Dionysus Feast," which, we assure you, was planned long before the catastrophe overseas. What Avila does is celebrate the festival of Greek god of wine - yes, the one the Doors Jim Morrison so liberally touted - with a festival of their own in Park Square. It happens from 6-8 p.m. and for $20 you get a host of Greek wines paired with Greek dishes by executive chef Rodney Murillo. Reservations suggested. Oh by the way, you mightr want to know Dionysus is not just the god of Jim Morrison, but also known as a promoter of civilization and a lover of peace - as well as the patron deity of agriculture and theater. Look, we're not pan-theists (or even theists) here at JSink, but we rather like what this Dionysus cat did, or may have done, or what the ancient Greeks thought he did, or what Avila is doing now ... (In photo, young people, presumably having a devil of a time at a previous Avila happening.)
