ongoing We're just going to keep this one steroid free. We hate the whole thing, but we've spent our life ignoring the things about baseball we don't like - creeping commercialism, skyrocketing salaries, greed in all corners, whiz-bang TV broadcasts that don't dare bore you for a minute so they pile of the F/X .... So, let's just say we won the World Series. Again. No one else can say that this century. Still, we can't decide whether this is the coolest or lamest thing a Red Sox fan of a certain age can do: Attend the 2008 Official Boston Red Sox Fantasy Camp from Feb. 3-10.(Seems like the late John Henry Williams did this for real, once. I me an tried to join the team when he should have settled for Fantasy Camp.) The deets: You get to join some of the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers. Anyone 30 years of age or older can do it. You will play ball at the Red Sox Spring Training Facility with past Red Sox greats such as Bill Lee, Rich Gedman, Jim Corsi and more. You'll meet Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski (in photo), Dwight Evans, and Frank Malzone; you'll have your name announced by Joe Castiglione, and enjoy a week of baseball action you'll never forget. But we wonder: How good/bad/rich are your companions? Is this a case of old men grunting and groaning, saying, "I, too, could have been a pro" as they weakly hit a 40 MPH pitch for a ground ball to first. Do these ex-Sox actually care or do they do this with an eye-roll and an eye to whatever the Red Sox are paying them? Will Yaz drink a beer and smoke a cig for you, if you want an action photo? Here's some official stuff rom the Sox.
