Come Together, Right Now, Over Brad Delp Print E-mail
Sunday, 19 August 2007

Sun. Aug. 19

Brad Delp was a rock 'n' roll suicide. It baffled many of us - I knew him slightly and wouldn't have guessed - but then, the act often does. Delp - singer for Boston and later the ace Beatles cover band BeatleJuice (third from the left in photo)  - was a kind, charitable man, supporting causes such as vegetarian and anti-violence organizations. And so, the majority of the proceeds raised by Sunday August 19th's "Come Together" tribute will go to The Brad Delp Foundation, created by his kids. OK, that's the tug-on-the-heartstrings selling point. The rock selling point: Sets by Boston, Godsmack, RTZ, Farrenheit, Ernie & the Automatics (that's Ernie Boch Jr. in his alter ego rock mode), BeatleJuice and - just added - Extreme. It's funny - I ran into Exreme singer Gary Cherone at the Hard Rock Cafe VIP opening last week and he said an Extreme reunion was a question not of "if" but "when." Little did we guess, it'd be ... now. We're not sure about how this Boston-centered (the city and the band) benefit will unfold or how much Delp's life will be discussed on stage. We do know that it brings '70s, '80s, '90s and 21st century rockers together for a cause and to show that life goes on, as the Beatles George Harrison once sang, within you and without you. It starts at the Bank of America Pavilion at 5:45; Boston takes the stage just before 10. Tickets: $40.
