Black Humor: Distaff Side Print E-mail
Aug 19, 2007 at 12:00 AM

 Sun. Aug. 19

It's no secret. Men and women often view the world with distinct differences. Blacks and whites, same. We've often gained insight into the African-American world through music and comedy, be it Leadbelly, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke or Tupac. And then there's Richard Pryor and, the funniest man out there today, Chris Rock. Here in Boston, comedy done by people of color is not so common a sight. But on Sunday August 19, Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway is putting on "ColorStruck: Boston's 8th Annual Women of Color in Comedy." (That's a mouthful.) Your performers: Sandy Asai, Janet Cormier, Deb Farrar-Parkman, Karith Foster, Coleen Galvin, Sheila Jackson, Esther Ku, Jen Ruelas and Bethany Van Delft. ColorStruck began in 2000 at the Comedy Studio in Harvard Square - one night, seven comics. It was sold out. It grew and by 2004 it was at Tingle's. "We're thrilled to have them here," says Tingle. "It's always a highlight of the summer that we look forward to every year." Sunday's show is at 7 p.m., tickets are $18.
