Sat. Aug. 11 We've gone to the Indian Ranch in Webster and heard some great country music there. A Tanya Tucker show some years ago brings fond memories - and, yes, if it must be told, a cool hang in her tour bus after show. (For journalistic purposes, only.) But now the Indian Ranch has another kind of musical beast on its p remises: It's hosting the second annual Garden Grove Festival, which is helmed by the Sublime tribute band Badfish (in photo) Saturday August 11. Now, Badfish is one of the most successful tribute bands extant. The ska-punk Sublime went down way too soon - Brad Nowell's overdose death ended their trip in '96 - and what's proved curious is that more than a decade after the fact, the public still wants their music. Badfish formed in 2001 and are up there in public esteem with Super Diamond (who do the coolest Neil Diamond show) and Dark Star Orchestra (Grateful Dead) and, probably, Lez Zeppelin (who we saw last weekend). What makes this Webster show unique is that there are two stages: a main stage and a tribute stage - and Badfish headlines the main stage! (That's at 7:30 p.m.) The whole shebang starts at noon with The Indefinite Article, Baylock, Baldi & Suburban Graffiti, Stealing Jane, Jediah, Scotty Don't and Zox. On the trib stage, starting at noon, it's Nuthsell (Alice in Chains), Warped (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Dammit (Blink 182), Excuse Me (No Doubt), Battle of Los Angeles (Rage Against the Machine) and Big Bang Baby (Stone Temple Pilots). So, it's a loud, rocking, kinda aggro day. How will all these cover bands fare? How will a whole day of it feel? Will people camp out at one stage over the other? How do you value original music vs. covers? All kinds of questions to play out under the sun as you bang your head. Tickets: $30 until Aug. 1, then $35 through Aug. 10 and $40 day of. Gates open at 11 a.m. 200 Gore Rd., Webster 866-468-7916, www.indianranch.com
