Fri. Aug. 3 Cary Brothers is not a band of Brothers named Cary or even a duo like the Everlys. Cary Brothers is one guy, a guy whose debut disc, "Who You Are," is full of lu sh, acoustic-orchestrated dream pop. He plays the Paradise Lounge Friday August 3, with Stars of Track and Field and Priscilla Ahn. Have you heard Brothers before? Quite possibly. He's opened for Liz Phair, KT Tunstall, Aqualung and the Fray. He's been on Craig Ferguson. His songs have been all over TV - "Scrubs," "Bones," Smallville" and, of course, "Grey's Anatomy." (We feel cursed because we've never written a song played on "Grey's Anatomy." Is there something wrong with us, besides the fact that we're not a songwriter?) Brothers is based in L.A., but was raised in the South - Nashville - and he says "Who You Are" as a sort-of Southern rock record, albeit not an Allman Brothers Band record (although he covered their songs in another band. "I have a love/hate relationship with the south," Brothers says. "I was born in the wake of the Civil Rights movment. Knowing what happened in the town I lived in disgusted me. There's so much beauty in the South, but a lot of secrets, too, and I wanted to talk about them. Nobody else I knew wanted to. I needed an escape. That's why I liked English bands like New Order and the Smiths when I was growing up. The British bands had a mystery and darkness I related to. I was listening to Morrissey while everybody else was into stuff like Toby Keith." Brothers show at the Lounge starts at 9. Tickets: $12. . 969 Commonwealth Ave., 617-562-8800 www.thedise.com
