Camp Is For Kids: Relive Your Idealized Youth at the Brattle Print E-mail
Monday, 13 August 2007

 Mon. Aug. 13

Ok, who liked summer camp? We know there were kids who loved slugs in sleeping bags, swimming in muddy ponds, shampooing with bars of soap, and lame competitive games to keep the kiddies happy while the camp "counselors" went off and smoked cigarettes or discovered the joys of young love? Did we mentions spiders and snakes? Or, maybe we're being cyncial and, hey, we only went to day camp. We begged our parents to never to that again, and if they'd threatened us with overnight camp, well, you say you want a revolution ... But Bradley Beesley and Sarah Price's "Summercamp!" is not about that life. Nope, the duo followed the lives of campers ages 6-15 at Swift Summer Camp, where they ... have fun. Oh, there's counselor mutiny considered, but mostly this is about discovery and talent shows and singalongs and, dare we say, the purity of youth. Adding some adult - but childlike glee - the all this is music by Flaming Lips, who are silly children in grownups guise. "Summercamp!" screens at the Brattle Theatre at 3:30, 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Monday Aug. 13 with a 1:30 p.m. show added Sunday. Tickets: $9.50 and $7.50. Why no late shows? Because that's when the Brattle's got their mini Camp Camp! series.  "Little Darlings" is at 9:30 Monday,
