Sun. Aug. 12

We are Boston and we are contrarians. Sometimes. At the Milky Way Lounge and Lanes Sunday August 12, we are for sure, because in honor of the National Poetry Slam Finals in Austin, Texas, Truth Serum is holding its "Anti-Slam: Bad Poetry Slam'' event at 9:30. Truth Serum honcho Aliza Shapiro invites all to "bring your worst poems, bring you most embarrassing childhood diary entries, bring your most annoying spoken word pieces, bring your meanest breakup letters, break your most hateful notes to your most irresponsible roommate, bring your drug-induced drivel, bring your pad and pen and create something on the spot, bring your sense of humor." Oh, Lord! Now, just to get you amateur bad poets - and we know you're out there - on your way guest slammers from the music, arts and drag scene will be there like Johnny Blazes, Stud, Brian King (in photo) and Lindsay Crudele. Wanna compete? You should have three pieces under three minutes each. Sign up in advance if you like at . It costs $6 to get in/enter. Cash and other prizes will be awarded.
