Thurs. July 26

When we hear from a band's publicist that their band has departed from their previous efforts - and it says specifically, "gone are the seven minute drones harkening back to the days of My Bloody Valentine" - we're a little bummed. Don't get us started, but My Bloody Valentine was one of the best noise bands of the '80s and I miss 'em every day. I remember an 18-minute drone at Axis that drove as many people to the front of the room as the rear. It was transfixing. But we digress. The band in question here is Auto Interiors and they've shifted their MBV attack and moved toward ... well, power pop. Short songs, hooky melodies, harmonies. We're really not quite sure what to make of it, but we can say we love the title of their latest CD, "Let's Agree To Deceive Our Best Friends." Finally, someone's taken inspiration from Morrissey's "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful." So, if you want to give it a go, the Boston band plays Hennessey's Thursday July 26. The Bleedin' Bleedins, who we like a lot, headline. Common Thrill opens at 9. Tickets: $8.
