Destroyed Again: George Thorogood is out reelin' and a rockin' Print E-mail
Friday, 03 August 2007

Fri. Aug. 3

There was a time not long ago - oh, OK, it was a while ago - when George Thorogood used to take the summer off because he played in a Delaware amateur baseball league. This was when he had signed to Rounder - their first "rock" act - and he was adamant about it. There might be money to made in the summer, but there was baseball to be played, too. How we admired that. We played modified fast-pitch softball (not baseball but a reasonable facsimile) and understood. Since, the vagaries of life have taken a toll on our softball playing and, we have to guess, Thorogood's baseball playing. He's not as young, either. So he tours in the summer. Fair enough. It's not a bad thing seeing him and the Destroyers at an outdoor shed, as you can Friday Aug. 3 at Bank of America Pavilion. Thorogood released his 12th album, "The Hard Stuff," last year and will be playing songs from that alongside the classic Elmore James and John Lee Hooker stuff that got him going. Now, we should tell you Bryan Adams is the headliner - that's Bryan not Ryan - and he's always struck us as a decent B-level middlebrow rocker, so stay for it all if you wish, but get  your shot of George by showing up at 7:30. Tickets: $50-$35.
