Roots Rock from the West: John Doe and friends Print E-mail
Friday, 27 July 2007

Fri. July 27

You know John Doe from X and the Knitters, but he's also pursued a solo (with band) career for quite some time as well. His profile isn't quite as high as when he's with the other groups, trading vocal lines and quips with his ex, Exene, but he produces some damn fine roots rock music. T.T. the Bear's has been Doe's solo stop for some time now, and he's there July 27 with a twist. The opening band, Dead Rock West (which just released "Honey and Salt" CD) is also Doe's backing band. DRW frontwoman Cindy Wasserman is also singing with Doe. (Trivia: Her brother is ace session bassist and solo artist  Rob Wasserman, who's known for his work with Elvis Costello, Vaqn Morrison, Lou Reed and others. And Reed, actually, was the guy who encouraged sister Cindy to be a singer.) DRW is on at 9:30, Mark Lind & the Unloved follow, then Doe. Tickets: $11.
