Were there really days when DJs blew up disco records? (Yes, but all is forgiven.) Print E-mail

Disco and punk were at war during the mid-'70s, with the punks hating the repetitive, simplistic, hedonistic lyrics and redundant rhythms - there might have been a little uncool racism and homophobia in there, too. But time heals - look at Germany and England now - and KC & the Sunshine Band are currently hailed as some sort of ancient gods of pleasure who've come back among us to allow us to "get down down tonight" or shake our booty. And look, what once might have been mildly risqué is basically G-rated. What was a guilty pleasure remains a guilty pleasure. What was camp remains camp. Heck, it's fun for the whole family. And KC - born Harry Wayne Casey - & Co. have signed on for a free concert at City Hall Plaza at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Fanueil Hall Marketplace. They'd like you to know it has over 50 shops and 35 restaurants, an international food colonnade and various pushcarts and street performers. And it's not just for tourists, dammit! (They didn't say that, we did.)
