Tues. Oct. 30 Rescheduling time! Morrissey lost his voice part-way through his Boston show late in June and had to scrap the rest of it as wel as several other dates. He rescheduled Boston and played early July. Now, word comes that Mozz is back out on the road - relentlessly beating the bushes. He's got t0 shows in L.A., five in New York, and one in our humble burg, at the Orpheum Oct. 30. And this just in - Oct. 25 - there are a limited number of $20 tickets for sale ... Our take ...We don't suppose we'll ever believe Morrissey's music will match the music he and Johnny Marr made when they led the Smiths. But Morrissey, the man with one name, continues his pursuit of iconic Morrisseyness - defined as an androgynous, possibly asexual, tower of vulnerability and strength, an aggressive vegan, a man who crea tes music that is the ultimate in passive-aggressive, and a fellow who has survived and propsered far more than we ever expected. (He's 48!) We don't always agree with what he says. We had one contentious, but fun, interview with him in the '90s and we've noted his various wishes of death upon those who annoy him. (He reminds us of a young Ian McCulloch, the Echo & the Bunnymen singer, back in the day.) But we him for his feistiness - he declared the contestants on pop idol shows imbeciles - and his morals - he declined a $5 million offer to reunite the Smiths for one festival gig. In discussing his new disc, "Ringleader of Tormenters," (he's always had a knack for titles and twists of phrase), with ChartAttack.com, he noted it was a less cynical effort. "I'm just seeing lots of joyful things in life," he said, "which I didn't in the past, which maybe you noticed. Politically the world is ridiculous, but there's still a lot of beautiful things... nature saves us, nature calms us down." Has the man mellowed? Well, he's always had a little mellow in him - the Smiths had a lot to do with resignation - but our guess is he's just tipped the scales a little bit that way at the moment. Mozz marches on. Show starts at 7:30. Kristeen Young opens. Tickets: tba. 1 Hamilton Place, 617-931-2000 www.livenation.com
