Jazz/Metal for the Masses at the Middle East Print E-mail

Mon. June 25

Say this about guitarist Alex Skolnick. The man has a very interesting career. He's most notable, we'd guess, for his metal guitar in Testament, followed by his ensemble work in the Christmas-themed art-rock megashow Trans-Siberian Orchestra. And then, there's this: his trio. A jazz bunch where he and Nathan Peck (bass) and Matt Zebroski (drums) take on metal songs in jazz idioms. (Note: King Crimson brought metal and jazz together years ago. Skolnick mixes covers and originals and his genre mash may just blow your mind. They're at the Middle East Upstairs tonight Monday, June 25. Doors at 9. Tickets: $12.
