Fri. July 13

True story: I was relaxing on the top deck of a Plymouth restaurant-bar recently, following a round of golf. Perfect weather, harbor view, sea breeze. It came time to order. I went for a beer, a Cajun chicken sandwich and then, to my amazement, fries that were named Freedom. Yes, still! Freedom Fries: the stupidest anti-French protest ever waged was still on the menu. The bartender semi-apologized and assured me I'd get French fries with my meal, and best I can tell, I did. But, really ... At any rate, you can celebrate Bastille Day here in Boston on Friday July 13 when the French Library Alliance Francaise presents the 32nd annual "Bastille Day Street Dance" on Marlborough street between Berkeley and Clarendon. About 2000 people regularly participate in this event, which this year features music by Ricardo Lemvo (from the Congo) & Makina Loca, Emeline Michel (from Haiti, in photo) and Ousmane Toure (from Senegal). French food - real French food, not fries - will be available courtesy of Brasserie Jo and other restaurants. Kronenberg 1664 is your beer provider and wine is from Chamarre Wine. It starts at 6 p.m. Tickets: $30.
