 Sat. May 19

Sometimes, a stroke of programming genius is just handed to you. The Brattle Theatre's Ned Hinkle must have felt that way after Quentin Tarrantino's "Grindhouse" opened to rave reviews and boffo box office. (Well, actually, we think the box office was less boffo than people thought it would be. Suggesting the audience for gross out horror movies - even done tongue in cheek - might be a little less than thought.) Still, there's a lot of people out there who dig the kind of cheese, sex and gore celebrated by the two movies and trailers that comprise "Grindhouse," and it makes only perfect sense to put together a program of "real" grindhouse movies - and even get a panel of experts to discuss it. It's called"Welcome to The Grindhouse."  Saturday, May 19 is zombie night, with the sexy "Return of the Living Dead" (in photo: the vivacious Melinda Clarke) at 7:30 - nekkid zombie chicks! - preceded by "City of the Walking Dead," a precursor to "28 Days Later," at 5:30. The panel discussion - $10 admision - is at 3 p.m. Saturday, with "The Alamo Drafthouse's Lars Nilsen, authro Eric Schaefer, Harvard Film Archivist Liz Coffey and more. The movies are all $9.50. You should assume R ratings.
