Beatlejuice Back Home at Johnny D's Print E-mail
Nov 26, 2010 at 12:00 AM

Fri. Nov. 26 & Sat. Nov. 27

“I wake up in the middle of the night and the reality of what happens hits me,” says BeatleJuice drummer Muzz. Of course, he’s talking about the suicide of singer Brad Delp – “my closest friend, my son’s godfather.” Over the years, Beatlejuice “has grown into a family. This just seems so unreal, too stunning. It’s such a shock. None of us saw this cBeatle Juiceoming.” Muzz says he found solace among friends, but as a musician he was also going stir-crazy. What could he do? Well, carry on, of course. Pamela Sullivan, Brad's fiancee, said she knows he wouldn't have wanted Beatlejuice to go down with him. And, so, even though the most famous member and frontman is gone, BeatleJuice goes forward. They've had five singers filling Delp's role and it, when we saw 'em on a summer cruise, we felt, if we may, fine. (Given the circumstances.) BeatleJuice has again set up shop in the Somerville club that was their mainstay during Delp's life, and plays Thanksgiving weekend Friday Nov. 26 and Saturday Nov. 27.

And, so, even though the most famous member and frontman is gone, BeatleJuice goes forward. They've had five singers filling Delp's role and it, when we saw 'em on a cruise last summer, we felt, if we may, fine. (Given the circumstances.) Says Muzz: "Not only has Beatlejuice continued, we've also continued to grow and expand as well. For the most part, the five singers who have worked with us the most have been Mike Girard of The Fools, Jimmy Rogers of Velvet Elvis, Buddy Bernard of Aces, Bob Squires (our original guitarist) and the first person I called to audition- Bob Jennings who I had heard sing years ago and was very impressed with even then.
Evan G has also stepped in to cover all the bongo, conga, shaker, brushes on snare parts, cymbal swells. etc...you know, all the percussion that we've always wanted to hear. Rich Bartlett and Brian Dixey have been covering all the acoustic parts that Brad used to play and more."

Show at 9:30. Tix: $10.
