You may remember the Stanford Prison Experiment from 1971. I remember studying it in college psych courses. It was about how students were randomly assigned roles of "prisoner" and "guard" and it revealed a far higher level of sadism than anyone predicte Dr. Philip Zimbardo, who helmed the experiment, decided to end it early. Limbardo, a professor of logistics, is still keenly interested in situational variables and systemic forces as it pertains to character transformation. His latest book is "The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Bad," and he'll be speaking at Harvard Law School Tuesday April 3 at 4:45 p.m. The abuse and torture at Abu Ghraib prison will come up. Zimbardo's nearly two-hour talk will be followed by a wine & cheese, book-signing reception at 7. Free, but space is limited. (First come, first serve.)
