Jerry Chen is a Ph.D. student at MIT, maybe not the garage-y breeding ground rockers album coverhave populated for years. Chen, as you might expect, is not churning out three-chord rockers about love and hate. His previous band was called Grand United Theory and this one is The Televangelist + the Architect.  On the album “Diaries of the Intelligentsia,” Chen addresses the notion of a class of the elite and the divide it creates among the rest of us stupids. Conceived as a solo disc, Chen has added a drummer and keyboardist and the music moves from tranquil to full-bore prog rock: Cure-like washes of sound, Eno-like guitar slashes. Check ‘em out at The Middle East Upstairs with the headlining Babygun. Preceding the T +A are Eunuch and The Exchange. Starts at 9 p.m. Tickets: $8.
