Wed. April 4 Just like "slow food" came about as a diametrically opposed option to "fast food," so did the genre of "slowcore" music take shape as the opposite of "hardcore." Or, maybe it just took shape as one of the variants of alt-rock. Mazzy Star, Low and Slowdive are three key slowcore bands. At any rate, there's a dreamy slowcor e bill at the Middle East Upstairs Wednesday April 4, with A Northern Chorus opening up and two Scottish bands,The Twilight Sad and Aerogramme rounding out the bill. ANC, from Ontario, has released its fourth CD, "The millions too many," and it features gorgeous cello lines and a muted, relaxed tone. Cellist and horn player Craig Hallidy has joined, making the band a sextet. (Violinist Eric Aurich has re-joined.) If you're in the mood for contemplative, seductive music, this is your ticket - which costs $10. ANC should be on around 9 p.m. 472 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, 617-864-3278 mideastclub.com
