Life Is a Cabaret Print E-mail

  Sun. April 1

Call a production "Songs from the Brink: A Cabaret" and you've got our attention. "On the brink" implies so much - success or failure, death or glory, transition to another place. This production at the Plaza Black Box Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts is a two-act presentation of siren songs, featuring Belle Linda Halpern and special guest Jeffrey Korn. Ron Roy is on piano. This is the third "Crossing Borders III: Voices" series. You'll travel back in time to songs sung by Al Jolson and Sophie Tucker. You'll hear songs penned by Richard Rodgers, Stephen Sondheim and Kurt Weill. You'll hear "Boat That's Leavin','' "Die Grine Kuzine," "Rumania," "Je Ne Regrette Rien," "Can't Help Lovin' That Man" and "Take the Moment." Blues, ballads and more sung in French, Italian, German, Yiddish and English. We would call that range. The show wraps up Sunday April 1. Tickets: $$23-$18.50. (Oh, yes, March is Cabaret Month. But they'll forgive you if you go Sunday.)
