Wed. Oct. 31 We'll try to get this straight. Last year, Dagmar released its debut CD, "Door No. 1," the first of a planned three-CD, three-part song cycle about a guy who can't get out of bed in the morning and an insect goddess who comes to rescue him. Now, they're ready to debut "Door No. 2," and are doing so in concert with the full-four piece band at the (They had been performing econimcally as Dagmar 2, with guitar-singer Jim Bauer and singer-multi-instrumentalist Meghan McGeary.) Joining them this week will be bassist Joel Simches and drummer Skwerl. This is adventurous art-rock, with - well, it's obvious isn't it? - a sense of humor. They're up in Witch City, Salem, on Halloween, Oct. 31 at the Gulu-Gulu Cafe, with a $10 show and an 8-ish start time. Says McGeary: "You can't come back if you've never been, and you can't come out if you don't go in. On Thursday night, after coming out of Door No. 1, we go in, to Door No. 2 (the upcoming second CD in our planned -- if we don't hit a speeding windshield -- 3-cd song cycle), with the full band (Skwerl on drums and Joel Simches on bass joining Jim "the guy" Bauer and Meghan "the insect goddess her own self" McGeary. If Door 1 was surreal, Door 2 is all real. If Dagmar is "artrock opera" (?) then while Door 1 pushed on the art, Door 2 opens up on the rock. We're not sure where the opera fits in. Obscurely, no doubt, in any case. Having taken all of Door No. 1 just to get the guy out of his damn bed and out of his dingy apartment, the fetching and irresistable Dagmar, now a gorgeous woman, not a spectacular bug, takes our hero on a fly-by tour of the real world. Scary. Especially these days. Door 2 is written but hasn't been recorded yet. We're heading out to give a birds-eye-low-dow sneak peek in this first-time-ever-in-the-whole-universe performance of the new songs, in the first-time-ever-in-the-whole-universe performance with this spectacular band lineup."
