Done Too Soon: Kick it up one more time for Jon Erik Johnson Print E-mail
Sunday, 11 February 2007

 Sun. Feb. 11

What do you do when someone you care about dies? Especially when they die young, unexpectedly. You mourn, you grieve, and you try - try mighty hard sometimes - to honor that person by celebrating his or her life. It ain't easy. But it's what a bunch of Boston musicians are doing in honor of Jon Erik Johnson, upright bassist (left, in photo) for Lenny and the Piss Poor Boys, who died suddenly on January 17 at 43. The Noise Board has established The Jon Erik Johnson Memorial Fund to assist his family, and they wrap up a three-night benefit tonight Sunday Feb. 11 at the Abbey Lounge, a frequent L & the PP Boys haunt.. On the bill Sunday, the Pug Uglies, Lusting Kay, Classic Ruins, the Alrighters, Brimstone Assembly and the Steamy Bohemians. There will be a special musical tribute to Jon from his pals as well. And, you should expect special guests at any point. This last show starts at 4 p.m. and costs $12 (and includes free pizza!)

Baseball Tavern, 1270 Boylston St., Boston, 617-867-6526, and the Abbey, 3 Beacon St., Somerville, abbeylounge.com
