Sat. Feb. 10 Spiritual Rez is yet another band spawned from Berklee College of Music, which certainly is rivalling "your own garage" as a major breeding ground of Boston talent. Our old prejudice about self-taught being the best way has ebbed away over time, especially as Berklee has expanded its scope beyond jazz and into ... everything. Plus, they've got that Heavy Rotation label and they've never been more active, locally or internationally. Spiritual Rez is one of those Berklee spinoffs, and they're playing the Paradise Saturday Feb. 10. They're a reggae-rock-funk band with a postivie groove. In "Peaceful Warrior," they sing exactly that - and they fight for freedom. There's something warming about the fact that it's easy to be pessimistic given all that's going on, they maintain a certain idealism. Maybe reggae does that to a band; maybe a band does that to reggae. Spiritual Rez, a nine-piece, played numerous benefits has played numerous. With one EP under their belts, the guys and gals expand to a ten-piece Saturday when Bernie Worrell, a longtime JSink bud and former keyboardist with P-Funk, Human Switchboard and Talking Heads. On their website, Spiritual Rez promises "an ultra funky" show and a "ridiculous time." Ridiculous in a good way, we're guessing. Indobox and the Benways open. Show starts at 9 p.m. $12 tickets. 967 Commonwealth Ave., 617-562-8801 thedise.com
