Burlesque: History, Movie, Performance Print E-mail
Monday, 05 February 2007

Mon. Feb. 5

In an era of all-access 24/7 xxx entertainment - the very computer you're usinng can do that for you! - there's something both quaint and sexy about the return of burlesque. Boston has certainly been up there in terms of cities supporting this modern revival of this most ancient form of erotic entertainment. On Monday February 5, the Coolidge Corner Theatre hosts a program called "Boston Babydolls - BOFFO BOX OFFICE," which means this: Burlesque historian David Kruk - he wrote "Always Something Doing: Boston's Infamous Scolly Square" - talks about The Old Howard, Boston's famed bluresque hall. Then, there's a screening of the Barbara Stanwick film, "Lady of Burlesque," based a novel by the most famous burlesqeur of all time Gypsy Rose Lee. After that, it's time to get real with the Boston Babydolls Burlesque Troupe. It's a benefit for the Professional Burlesque Society, a non-profit that helps burlesque performers learn what they need to know, both on stage and off. Starts at 7 p.m. Tickets: $12.
