You Don't Have to Be a Skate-Punk to Join the Cause Print E-mail
Sunday, 17 December 2006

Sun. Dec. 17

We missed the skate-punk generation by a few years. Heck, we even passed on the pre-skate-punk generation party in college, even when our best friend (now a successful microchip executive) went speeding down the hill on his board. But the skate-punk world grew up around us and we had to respect it, albeit grudgingly as the lithe youths went zipping past us on Newbury Street - just to use one tony example - while we shook our fist and cursed. That may be overstated. Anyway, Boston's building the Charles River Skatepark to take care of all the boarders and there's a benefit for it Sunday Dec. 17 at Redline. It's sponsored by Teem Rekloos and Warhol is Dead. (Nothing like pissing on the grave of departed avant-garde icons is there? Oh heck, Andy would probably smile wanly.) There's a graffiti art gallery (with graffiti action figures) at the Harvard Square club and from 5-9 p.m. all are invited to check it out. At 9, the 21-plus crowd gets to enjoy a dance party hosted by JAM'N 94.5 until 1 a.m. Make a donation to fund the park.
