Sun. Dec. 10

How many times has the Boston Tea Party been re-enacted? If you're guessing a dozen or so - you know, because of the increasing popularity of all those Civil War re-enactor events - you'd be off by more than 200. On Sunday Dec. 10 at 5 p.m., you are invited to the Old South Meeting House to be part 600 people trying to sing lyrics like this: "How grand the scene!/ No tyrant shall oppose/ The tea is sunk in spite of all of our foes/ A noble sight - to see th' accursed tea/ Mingled with Mud - and ever for to be/ For King and Prince shall know that we are free." This song from the 1770s trips right off the tongue, doesn't it? Prescott's Battalion, a colonial-styled file and drum corp will provide the music - or musick as they spelled it back then. You'll also witness a debate about the whole revolution idea, hosted by WCVB-TV anchor Steve Lacy. Dress as your normal self and pay $5; dress in colonial costume and get in free. (Yes, re-enactors will be present and will rehearse at 3.) Also, from 2-4, the Upton Tea Company will offer samples of its tea, including Hyson Tea, one of the types dumped in the harbor. There's something off about serving the same brand the colonial people dumped in the harbor, we think, but we can't put our finger on it.
