Amanda Palmer: The busiest gal in Boston showbiz Print E-mail
Sunday, 26 November 2006

Mon. Nov. 27

As if Amanda Palmer didn't have enough to do ... The Dresden Dolls singer-pianist is in the midst of rehearsals for a musical to be staged at the A.R.T.'s Zero Arrow Theater (Dec. 9-Jan. 13) called "The Onion Cellar." The title is taken from the surreal club in "The Tin Drum." We don't know exactly what to expect - except maybe 10 songs from the Dolls and some bizarre interaction among cast and audience - but we know it's a pretty big undertaking for a woman used to being part of a duo. (She and drummer Brian Viglione comprise the Dolls; occasionally, they've worked with a full band.) So, anyway, what does she do? She books a Monday night (Nov. 27) solo gig at the Paradise. Ambitious woman. You'll probably get some Dolls songs and covers from Elliott Smith, "Evita," And They'll Know Us By the Trail of Dead ... and They Might Be Giants. You definitely want to check out dresdendolls.com/bio to get a fascinating read on Palmer's life and times. And you may just want to see what she's up to on her own at the 'dise. Palmer does like turning gigs into events. And also on the bill is Elizabeth and the Catapult and the Boston Typewriter Orchestra. Starts at 8 p.m. Tickets: $16.
