Still Virbating After All These Years: Pub rock & Punk at the Midway Cafe Sunday Print E-mail
Sep 30, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Sun. Sept. 30

Have to admit, I did a double-take when I came across the lineup for the tiny Midway Cafe SunVibratorsday Sept. 30: Topping the bill, the Vibrators. The Vibrators? The first-generation UK punk-pub rock band? The guys who did this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWHgcBIqdJ8&feature=related. Well, sort of. The drummer, John "Eddie" Edwards is the only original Vibrator, going back to, gulp, 1976. (Eddie was once called Eddie the Drummer. Ah, those days of punk minimalism!) There are 19 ex-Vibrators bouncing around the world, including founding singer Ian 'Knox' Carnochan who has come and gone over the years, but left last year, meaning the 2012 lineup includes bassist Pete Honkamaki and singer-guitarist Nigel Bennett.
Here's something done lately, a Richard Berry cover done in 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtDMfufd_U8
No guarantees here abotu how this will sound, but it's only $10 and maybe worth a gamble.
Starts at 8:15 with Jay Allen & the Archcriminals, followed by Subclinx, Jason Bennet & the Resistance, Riki Rocksteady and then at midngiht, The Vibrators.
