Sat. June 30 Dave Herlihy, lead singer-songwriter-guitarist for the usually on the shelf O Positive, (in photo) was one of the first to leap at a gig to salute the demise of alt-rock radio station WFNX, and headline "We Want the Airwaves," what will likely be an Irish-style wake at the Paradise Saturday June 30. WFNX, as Herlihy will tell you, really broke the band in Boston, which led to at least a modicum of success nationally. Essentially, in the early '80s WFNX put O Positive songs like "Talk About Love" and "Up, Up, Up" into regular rotation - meaning they were played next to the already established bands of the day. Herlihy, now a music business lawyer and professor at Northeastern, has put the group back together now and again over the years, generally for a charitable concern. So, on this night O Positive joins Orbit (another successful local band with a brief national run), Garvey J (ex-Elevator Drops) and Parlour Bells for a celebration of what 'FNX once was. And, yes, it is a charitable concern too: All proceeds benefit the Progeria Research Foundation, whose mission is to find treatments and a cure for progeria, a rare, fatal "rapid aging" disease that afflicts children who tend to die at 13 of heart disease. FNX djs Bruce McDonald, Paul Driscoll, Adam 12, Duane Bruce and Mike Gioscia will spin. Tix: $20. Doors at 8. 967 Commonwealth Ave., 617-562-8800 www.thedise.com www.tinyurl.com/wewanttheariwavestix
