Sir Paul at 70: Boston Rockers Salute Stella's Dad Print E-mail
Jun 16, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Sat. June 16

Paul McCartney turns 70 on Monday June 18 - yes, now "When I'm 64" and its attendant jokes are in the rear-view mirrorPaul McCartney - and Boston rockers will be saluting hims with a Birthday Tribute, two days ahead of time on Saturday June 16 as Boston rockers are prone to do. It takes place at the Lizard Lounge (like a lot of these cover tribs) and the lead band is the Lennonheads, not to be confused with the Lemonheads. It features members of The Click Five, Oranjuly and Spirit Kid, with Ducky Carlisle. They'll be joined by the Daily Pravda (no doubt covering "Back in the USSR") and two Wills, Dailey and Davies. More special guests TBA. Tickets are $10 advance/$8 at the door it gets rolling around 9. Songs we'd love to hear "Revolution No. 9" (forwards or backwards) and "Why Don't We Do It In the Road?" The former, Beatles nuts will recall, was the tape loop and cut up bits of noise and sound that when played backwards revealed Paul was killed in a horrendous car crash - you hear the crash, the fire, the cries of help - and of course "Turn me on dead man." So, it would in a way, be an honor for Sir Big Mac for someone to play the song that dramatized his death. Of course, he didn't die and it seems to have been an elaborate ho  (Hi John!) that's both been fun to dig into over the years. Of course, with the re-release of the deluxe version of "Ram," it's possible these players will be digging into Paul's post-Beatles' work, too. Let's not just get too heavy on the Wings stuff, OK, fellas? More trivia: I was talking to the Kinks' Ray Davies once about touring with the Beatles and he said the Kinks nick-name for Paul was "Pull McCockoff." You see, Paul was ... well, you get it.
