Just Say Woof: Party for the Four-Pawed at Foundation Room Print E-mail
Mar 21, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Fri. March 23

Did you see the recent Rolling Stone story about countless abandoned dogs - well, they estimate 50,000 - roaming the streets of Detroit and scavenging for food? The theory is that many of them were once well-loved animal companions who were let go because their impoverished owners could no longer afford to care for them. While Boston does not quite have that canine wild in the streets scenario, we sure have plenty of pets who've gotten the short end of the stick (pun, maybe intended.) My wife takes care of a small feral cat community that's taken up residence in our back yard, and the Animal Rescue League is a cause close to our hearts Among other things, the ARL brings kibbles, bits and  some much-needed TLC to injured, displaced, abandoned and abused animals across the city.
WhaDogt can you do? Dance. Sounds glib, but seriously, you can do so at the annual Fur Ball at the Foundation Room Friday March 23. There, you can boogie to '70s and '80s tunes with the noble cause of animal welfare as you partake in a retro shindig. Somehow, we gotta think George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" will be among the tunes spun (punched up?) by DJ Big Missy. There's also scanning a silent auction of coveted packages. Drop $100 and from 7-8 p.m. there's a VIP Reception includes complimentary booze and appetizers, parking at nearby Lansdowne Street Garage and Fur Ball gift bag. Drop $50 for the 8-midnight party and you get a drink ticket. But really you're there for Rover and Mittens and all their kinfolk.
