Saying Goodbye to Billy Ruane One More Time Print E-mail
Jan 30, 2011 at 12:00 AM

Sun. Jan. 30

Lili Ruane, the late Billy Ruane's sister, just sent out word that she'll be bringing the urn that bears Billy's ashes to the Middle East tonight at 9 for what we're sure willl be another happy-sad, somewhat boozy celebration of the wild and crazy music promoter. I've never seen a wake with more people lined up around the corner than I did at Billy's. He touched so many people, in and out of the music scene, and had a deep effect on many people for many years. Not every bit of it was good. Billy's bipolar nature took hold sometimes and things could go south. But when his mojo was working - and it most always was in public - Billy was a gregarious host, guest, dancer, fan and friend. Free. Drinks extra.
