I tend to try and be whimsical or wry or witty or something approaching clever in this column. But I'll shoot right down the middle this time. I suppose this one's close to my heart, as one who was adopted at one-month old. Adam Pertman (in photo), a former colleague at the Boston Globe, has written extensively about adoption issues in America, including the book "Adoption Nation: How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming America." He is now the Executive Director of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute and he tipped us to a forum he'll be part of Tuesday Nov. 28 at the JFK PresidentialLibrary and Museum. He'll be joined by Dr. David Brodzinksy, Project Director of the Adoption Institute and the book "Being Adopted: The Lifelong Search for Self," Hollee McGinnis, Policy and Operations Director of the Adoption Institute and Dr. Ellen Pinderhughes, Senior Research Fellow of the Adoption Institute and Dean of the Department of Child Development at Tufts. The goal is to provide info for everyone in the adoptive world: parents, would-be parents, adopted people, etc. There's food and refreshments at 5:30 p.m. and the two hour program starts a half hour later. It's free and in Smith Hall. It's a good idea to call for reservations. Contact Mari at
