Arts + Legal Aid + Drinks = Sowa Party Wednesday PDF Print E-mail
Jun 23, 2010 at 02:50 PM

Wed. June 23

You hear the words "volunteer" and "lawyers" and you can't help but think good things. You hear the world "lawyer" alone and you may not. But SoWa - the South of Washington appellation that is meant to designate "hip zone" - is hosting a 25th Anniversary Bash of Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts Wednesday June 23 from 5:30-8:30.  It's also the annual Fundraiser To Benefit the PrSowa: Martinis & Masterpieesograms of the Arts and Business Council of Greater Boston. All good things. What do you get? The event, expected to draw about 300 folks, will include a silent auction featuring over 70 works of art by graduates of the A&BC’s Artist’s Professional Toolbox Program; live music by Alex Alvear and Friends, A Touch of Strings and Zumex. But drinks, what about drinks? Well this thing is actually called "Martinis & Masterpieces," so you've got a clue now, don't you? Martini & Rossi are providing the former and and fresh market hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Rocca. It takes place at Mohr & McPherson and the galleries along Thayer Street.

Tickets are $150 ($75 for arts organization personnel and artists). Funds raised will benefit the many legal, business, and professional development programs of the Arts & Business Council, which merged with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts in 2009.  The event will honor Celeste Wilson, Founding Director of the Arts & Business Council, for her ten years of dedication to the arts community. The New England Council and the New England Foundation for the Arts will also be honored on the 10th anniversary of their groundbreaking study The Creative Economy Initiative. The A&BC will present the Robert B. Fraser Award for legal pro-bono excellence to Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP and Joshua Miller, Esq. and Steven Young, Esq. of Holland & Knight LLP.

Did we mention the martinis?
