Cosmo Time Again: Sex in the City Returns, Bars Offer Drinks PDF Print E-mail
May 27, 2010 at 12:00 AM

Thurs. May 27

Gee, have you heard? "Sex in the City" is coming back. Movie Number 2. More cougars, more shoes, more girl-bonding/cat-fighting, more of those Cosmos, more Mr. Big, different locales like Abu Dhabi, a plot of some sorts. The HBO series and then Movie No. 1 had us teetering on that bemused/hate divide. We're way out of the target demo, age-wise, gender-wise. Their world, sorta enticing, mostly angers me. During the first movie, I can't say that I didn't wish for the big foot Terry Gilliam designed to stamp out Monty Python sketches. Which doesn't mean we won't be going to see "Sex and City 2." It's part of the zeitgeist, still. One must be aware of the zeitgeist. Well, before the movie opens you can do the pretend thing and drink up at Burtons Grill with "A Night of Couture and Cocktails," the night before the movie opens nationwide. That's Thursday May 27. Now, we know bars can't technically discriminate - men only, women only - these days, but we can tell you the PR pitch is "From 7:00PM to 10:00PM gab with your girlfriends in the lounge area while enjoying complimentary snacks and sipping on 'Sex and the City' inspired cocktails such as The Carrie Cosmo (strawberry vodka, triple sec, lime and cranberry juice, $9), The Samantha (vodka infused with cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, combined with a special blend of juices,$9), The Miranda (raspberry vodka mingled with rich Chambord liqueur and fresh raspberries, $9), The Charlotte (blend of blueberry vodka, blueberry juice and lemonade, $9) and The Mr. Big Chocolatini (Dutch chocolate vodka,Godiva liqueur, and a touch of cream, $9)." In a big shocker, those drinks will be available all day
the 28th as well).
And there's more. Burtons is giving away four tickets to win passes to the movie. And, if you're wondering whether this is some rogue promotion, we're told it is not. This night has been given the exclusive stamp of approval by www./SexandTheCityMovie.org the #1 "Sex and the City 2." website, and a sponsor of this event.
And from that very site, a story about co-star Cynthia Nixon (Miranda). She said she was walking down a street in New York recently, a truck pulled up in front of her. “Some men leaned out of the window and started yelling at me: ‘Your movie SUCKED.’ It was very startling.” They were referring to Sex and the City, the 2008 film following the hugely successful television series about four New York professional women who call the shots (mostly) in their relationships with men. “I thought: I bet you $1,000 you haven’t seen the movie, but something about it makes you angry. We’re just a comedy but one that has become very polarizing, because we showed what was actually happening in New York: women out on the town, meeting men and drinking and shopping and indulging themselves and not just sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring.”
Yes, that's part of what was happening in New York. At least before the boom when bust.
